The CBU is a university consortium of highly recognised universities in Russia and Finland. The CBU involves ten participating universities: four in Finland and six in Russia.
The Faculty of Science and Forestry at the University of Eastern Finland offers a three-year-scholarship of 1500 EUR per month starting January 1st, 2012. The scholarship is meant for doctoral studies at UEF, School of Forest Sciences and is expected to involve co-operation with Russian CBU Partner University. The selected PhD student’s official university of PhD studies and main place of work should be UEF, School of Forest Sciences. The place of work can also be an agreed company / institute in Finland.
A suitable applicant will have a MSc or licentiate degree and she or he is / will be a PhD student at UEF, School of Forest Sciences. The applicant should have a research topic that fits in the profile of the UEF’s School of Forest Sciences where one of the supervisors should hold a Professorship or corresponding competence, and the supervisor should have approved merits in the thematic area of the doctoral thesis. The applicant is expected to complete the doctoral thesis as a member of the supervisor’s research team.

The application and appendices in English must arrive to the Registry office of the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu or Kuopio Campus, at latest by November 30, 2011 at 3:00 pm. The application documents will not be returned.
